We invite you to participate in this innovative environment, through the first International Care Congress in the Canary Islands.

The world of care deserves to be at the centre of public concerns and attention. Considering this, it is important to generate a context that opens up possibilities for conversation and action. This congress is the result of the combined efforts of both the public sector and the civil society, working together to achieve the highest possible levels of social benefits. It is based on a common viewpoint, taking into account different aspects related to care within the framework of the “Canary Islands co-responsible plan. The plan is part of the seed policy developed by the Spanish Ministry, for a public system of co-responsible care, to foster the balance of family life and work and to additionally promote the creation of employment within sectors that are socially fragile. Its aim is to promote processes that will enable the possibility of building the Canary Islands as an environment of equality, leaving behind the gender perspective that dominates the world of care, to accept the fact that we are fragile and interdependent and that we are therefore shaped by our humanity, by our compassion and by our community.

ACUFADE, Association of Caregivers, Relatives and Friends of People with Dependency, Alzheimer’s and other Dementias and the Department of Equality and Diversity of the Government of the Canary Islands are promoting this initiative which will hopefully receive the response that this topics deserve due to the essential importance that it has in our daily lives.

The 1st International Care Congress, will be held on 3, 4 and 5 November 2022 in Tenerife in San Cristobal de La Laguna, with the slogan “The Right to a Decent Life: Co-responsibility and Sustainability”. This first exchange of representatives from academic, professional, institutional and political areas aims to raise awareness on the care topic and investigate and discuss solutions to improve the quality of people’s lives. The event will be celebrated within the framework of the commemoration of the International Day of Carers, which is celebrated every 5th November.

The congress focuses on the need to redefine care as a driver of social change, raising awareness of the role of care in society, the evolution of regulatory frameworks, existing care systems and resources at national and international level, as well as the improvements needed to build a co-responsible society that protects the right to a decent life.
